The Joy of Edublogging.

Never have I imagined I would do such a thing such as edublogging in my life. The first time we were asked to create one, I felt terrified because honestly, I don't know how to start doing it. The first thought that came to my mind is that I'm doing this so that I can accomplish what I should do. I never thought I would enjoy doing this.

Edublogging has taught me a lot of things. First is being able to utilize the knowledge that I have. For me, this is a great thing because the things I know are being useful. Also, I learned how to gather information and share it on how I understand it. I may not be very good in doing such blogs but I actually enjoy doing it. I like the fact that I could freely express myself in this. Expressing myself is a very fun thing to do. Also, the fact that others can read my posts and learn from them makes me feel good. Not only can I express myself, I can also impart it with others.

Respect, a word I never realized I could connect with edublogging. In edublogging, respect is very important. Respect for the works of other people is important. Proper citation of references and sources is important. Before, I never realized how important citing is. Sometimes, I even feel like it is not necessary at all. But since the day I tried edublogging, I suddenly understood what the authors might feel if they weren't properly cited. My work wasn't as good as the others but somehow I felt proud of it because I know it's mine. I realized that I would feel really offended if my work is used and I was not properly acknowledged.

To sum it all up, edublogging has taught me a lot of things. Not only did it teach me to knowledgeable with certain topics but it taught me things that I could use in the future. Though I felt terrified at first, now I feel thankful that I was given the chance to do so. And with all that I experienced and learned through this, I never regret that I did edublogging. :)

What is TOXICOLOGY?

Usually, when I hear the word "toxicology", this photo above comes to my mind first. First, I wanna define what toxicology means in my own understanding. As we all know, logos means "study of", so I assume that toxicology is actually study of toxins. This then can include the its effects to living organisms.

Chemicals, these are one of the things a medical technologist has to deal with. As a medical technologist, I usually get in contact with different types of chemicals. They differ in the effects they may give. For me, toxicology is very important especially for a medtech like me. If not because of toxicology, we may not know how to properly handle chemicals. And if worst situations will occur, like accidentally for example, toxicology has provided some guidelines that definitely could help.

I was reminded once with a story I may connect to toxicology. Once, I heard a news about someone who tried to killed himself by drinking poison. It caught my attention because this person was just a minor (more or less 15 years old) and for me, his problem wasn't really heavy. It was just because he failed on something in school. His mom saw her after a few minutes. But because she was not knowledgeable about what she need to do, his son died. After this incident, someone who is knowledgeable about toxicology was asked if what she could have done to save her son. She explained it and said that if she knew what to do, her son would have been alive up to now. It really struck me because I suddenly realized the importance of toxicology.

An Introduction to ENDOCRINOLOGY

Endocrinology, a word usually defined as the study of hormones, their production and their role to each organ they affect. When the word ‘endocrinology’ is heard, most of us would think about hormones. Some of us may have heard this word but what is really its importance in our body? Hormones are the ones responsible for cellular communication in a chemical basis. These hormones act on their target cells. Some of these act specifically in one target tissue while others may act on many types of cells. The hypothalamus which is a region in our brain is responsible for the production of hormones together with some endocrine glands. The hormones are then released into the blood stream. Bayliss and Starling were the ones who coined the word ‘hormone’. Since hormones are responsible for communication, the Greek word where it was derived which is ‘messenger’ fits well with its function. Hormones play an important role is our body and an imbalance of it may greatly affect our health. These may also affect our feelings and behavior as well. This is why endocrinology is very important to study. Many endocrinologists were recognized throughout the world for their studies and contribution in the betterment of human’s health. Endocrinology is said to be a lead science because of its significant part in discovering ways in health development.
